Zambia Project changes the life of John Chipoya

John Chipoya is a single orphan who went to Garden Open Community School and later to Olympia Park High School with bursary support from the Zambia Project through ZOCS.

John ChipoyaJohn graduated with 5 distinctions and 3 merits at grade 12 level, a great achievement considering his early beginning in school as an orphan growing up in the slums of Lusaka. His grandmother had taken care of John since he was a child but she died in 2011 when he was in his 12th grade.

“I want to be assisted in thanking the Zambia Project in the USA who supported me financially and also ZOCS for being good to me throughout my secondary school education”.

John wants to study electrical engineering at the University of Zambia.

“It was the wish of my late grandmother to become an electrical engineer so I am going forward with this. My grandmother was my role model so I want to do something for what she believed in” says John.

However, like many other orphans in Zambia John may not achieve his dream due to limited resources at his disposal. The public Universities have over the years set tuition fees in collaboration with the Ministry of Education but these are often too high for people like John.
